Tillakaratne Dilshan has been named as the captain of the Sri Lankan team in all the formats of the game until the end of the year. This will mean that he will be the captain of the Sri Lankan team at least until the end of the 2nd Test against South Africa in Durban. The appointment was ratified by the Sri Lankan sports minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage.
Dilshan took over from Kumar Sangakkara at the end of the World Cup where Sri Lanka finished runners-up. Under him, Sri Lanka lost both the Test and ODI series in England and currently trail 1-2 in the 5-match ODI series against Australia.
Dilshan has had a mixed time with the bat though. He scored a career best 193 in the second Test at Lord's before a broken thumb ruled him out of the 3rd Test and the T20 match. He returned for the ODI series, but struggled with the bat.
He showed some signs of returning to his best with an unbeaten century against Australia in the 1st T-20 match in Pallakele and played a vital role as an all-rounder to help Sri Lanka win the 3rd ODI at Hambantota.
