CANBERRA: Australian selector Greg Chappell has said captain Michael Clarke will help the team and boost the spirit of the players.
In an interview with The Telegraph Australia, Chappell said " He (Clarke) has a great passion for the game and, he will be that energy and personality into the leadership. People who know him quite well find it quite remarkable there have been mixed views on Michael."
Chappell also revealed that Australia is battling hard to find a replacement spinner to fill the shoes of Shane Warne
"We had some success like (Stuart) McGill. They don't come that often. There have been long periods when we just have not had any outstanding spinners. So, the facts are you are searching for something out of the ordinary," Chappell said.
Chappell said the existing cricket setup in the country is not in favour of spinners. "I would love to make the environment in which young spinners are growing up is much different than ever before," Chappell said.
"I just don't see them getting the encouragement from captains and coaches, who see them as bowlers who leak runs rather than one who have the opportunities to take wickets. They are a last resort option in junior cricket, club and first-class cricket at times," he added.CANBERRA: Australian selector Greg Chappell has said captain Michael Clarke will help the team and boost the spirit of the players.
